The erstwhile New York City home of Julia and David Koch went to a new owner this summer. The townhouse in the Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan was sold by Ms. Koch for $41 million. The deal was concluded off-market.

The Lenox Hill mansion was designed by Robert Couturier, and completed in 2012. It looms six stories from the street, and is seven levels overall; it is thirty-six feet wide. It contains eight bedrooms across 15,000 sq. ft. of interior living area. Interior amenities include a lavish staircase and an elevator; the master suite, located on the third floor, spans 1,500 sq. ft., while the garden level opens onto a large courtyard.

Details at work in the home present something of a then-and-now amalgam. Multiple sources on the net report that the residence was updated by architect Peter Marino. Parquet floors and marble French-style fireplaces can be spotted. Whether or not the staircase’s lovely Art Deco balustrade survived the most recent renovation is unfortunately a matter of conjecture at this point.

Koch snapped up a pair of Paul Allen’s Manhattan apartments in 2022. She also cast her eyes Eastward; a few months before purchasing the properties from Allen’s estate, she settled on a supporting property near her primary residence in Southampton. That home, which sapped $75 million from her coffers, is anchored by a 22,000 sq. ft. Tudor-style mansion with fifteen bedrooms.

Koch’s net worth is around $58 billion.
