Showing off a complete redesign for the upcoming model year is the mid-sized Lexus SUV model GX. Boxy, angular and boasting a utilitarianism that’s attractive and carries the torch of classical SUV designs, the new GX is infused with purebred Lexus DNA: it should be a very persuasive option in the marketplace, even alongside pricier European cachet.

To round out the new GX’s persona and put the finishing touch on the lauded redesign, Lexus has designated it ‘adventure-grade’ for 2024, solidifying the model’s longstanding reputation as a capable off-road carriage. In keeping, the automaker is marketing the 2024 GX as a ticket to nature. And it is offering the 2024 GX in six trim levels, including two ‘Overtrail’ options for owners who intend to put the SUV through its bushwhacking paces.

The 2024 GX Overtrail is wider that its brethren, outfitted with 33-inch tires on 18-inch wheels, and granted signature visuals: the off-road-specific GX can be ordered in two-tone paint, with black-rimmed fenders and an aluminum skid plate. The GX Overtrail+ adds interior creature comforts that include improved seats designed specifically for cushy off-roading which Lexus marketing defines as ‘refined’ adventuring. Crawl Control, Downhill Assist Control, 3D Multi-Terrain Monitor, and Multi-Terrain Select systems are standard on the GX Overtrail and Overtrail+ vehicles.

Lexus rounds out the GX showroom spectrum with trim levels Premium, Premium+, Luxury and Luxury+. All 2024 GX vehicles are wider and longer, with a tighter front overhang. At launch, the model may be ordered with a 349-horsepower V6 biturbo; a hybrid option is to come.

The 2024 GX is outfitted with Premium Triple-Beam LED headlamps, standard power-lift rear door with kick sensor, and interior updates that include a 14-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch Multi-Information Display, Apple and Android capability, the newest Lexus Safety System, and configurable second seat row. Upper-level trim gets buyers a host of appealing frills that include a Mark Levinson sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and adaptive dampers.

Lexus hasn’t yet revealed pricing information for the 2024 GX.
