Although Bentley, like other luxury automakers, will likely continue to build larger engines for special models, the automaker’s famous W12 will soon be retired as a regular production powerhouse. Sending off the six-liter monster is a special commemorative kit that will be available on 120 examples of each of Bentley’s four production models: the Flying Spur, Bentayga, and Continental GT and GTC. All are Speed variants, so Bentley is calling the opalescent brethren the ‘Speed Edition 12’.
The Speed Edition 12 cars boast special visuals — including silver brake calipers — as well as 22-inch Speed-level wheels. ‘Opalite’, the custom-designed color unique to the run, makes spotting a Speed Edition 12 car on the road easy, at least for the initiated.
Inside, Speed Edition 12 welcome lamps and treadplates distinguish the cars, along with a upholstery given a three-color fade and contrast-stitched quilted door panels. But the W12 hiding under the hood is where the spirit of the Speed Edition 12 resides, of course.
Along with the keys, owners will receive a 15% scale W12 engine block to commemorate the largest of the Bentley motors.
