Ushering in the 2024 Defender model year, and swelling the ranks of the prototypical SUV, is a pair of new variations on the Defender 130 theme. The two new versions of the long-wheelbase Defender target the off-road enthusiast and the highway driver looking for amped-up performance. Land Rover calls them the Defender 130 Outbound and Defender 130 V8.

The 2024 Land Rover Defender 130 V8 Edition packs a large supercharged engine — it displaces five liters — that pumps out nearly 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque and gives the large SUV a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds. The variant will be produced in either Santorini Black or Carpathian Grey, and it features a quad-pipe exhaust, panoramic roof, LED headlamps, darkened taillights, and of course special badging.

The 2024 Land Rover Defender 130 Outbound comes standard with Electronic Air Suspension, Adaptive Dynamics, and new off-road tech for traversing problematic terrain. It features 20-inch wheels, Anthracite side vents, and a Shadow Atlas Matt finish on bumpers and grille. The Outbound flavor will be available only as a five-seater, setting cabin space aside for gear, luggage, and the like, with additional lashing points for keeping it secure.

Along with the two new 130 variants, the Defender news for 2024 includes a new trim package called the ‘County Exterior Pack’ that’s specific to the 110-inch wheelbase version. A cosmetic treatment for the SUV, the package lends a veneer of aristocratic pretension to the vehicle; design elements include illuminated tread plates and ‘County’ graphics for the exterior profile, along with 20-inch alloy wheels in special finishes and a host of interior customization options including grained and Windsor leathers and Robustec veneer trim.
