The estate of late investor and KKR co-founder Jerome Kohlberg appeared on the New York open market recently. The Westchester County property encloses a 9,300 sq. ft. residence in 200 acres of grounds, with forests, a pond, paddocks and an ancient paver motor court representing standout features of the land. It is presently priced at $11.5 million.

The main house dates to the 1920s. It’s a large, winged colonial with a stone-clad first level that’s situated at the end of a stunning romantic preamble: a mile-long driveway. Lovers of period authenticity, take note: inside the home, many original details can be spotted, including wide-plank hardwood, hexagonal terra-cotta tile, fireplaces, and fieldstone accents and support columns. More recent touches include newer hardwood floors and windows.

A few of the amenities inside the home are extraordinary. The library is a pine-paneled gem with a fireplace, and there’s an indoor pool with weathered timber walls and ceilings, exposed rafters, and skylights, and an indoor tennis pavilion.

More generally, the property’s consolations include a series of supporting structures, including a gate house, manager’s house, carriage house, and an in-law apartment. The estate was conceived as a paragon of sustainable farming, gentleman style, and additional buildings on the property include the structures and husbandry real estate necessary to support a serious agricultural concern: barns, a greenhouse, garden beds, and an aquaponics system among them.

An extraordinary opportunity.
