2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680: Luxury, Power, and Range

The newest flagship electric SUV from the house of Mercedes-Benz is here. The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV, the first all-electric model in the history of the marque, arrives for the 2024 model year, along with a pledge from the automaker: as of 2039, the Mercedes-Benz production fleet will be end-to-end net carbon-neutral.

The newest Maybach is fertile ground for discussion. The car’s range and power are impressive, and the Mercedes press release touts the low cabin noise of the vehicle; install an electric powertrain in a Maybach, a brand that already considers low cabin noise a criterion for production green lighting, and the result is going to be virtual silence in the cabin during operation.

The Maybach EQS 680 can travel nearly 373 miles on a full charge, and be restored fully in 31 minutes at a fast-charge station. Its two permanently excited synchronous motors deliver a total of 649 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. The uptown brute can hit 60 from a standstill in 4.1 seconds. Performance features include 4MATIC standard, AIRMATIC air suspension, and Maybach drive program, which replaces the outgoing ‘Comfort’ rear-seat program for chauffeured travel.

The interior of the new all-electric Maybach is swathed in vegetable-tanned Nappa leather. Vegetable tanning is an old-world process that’s gaining traction as an ecologically sensitive alternative to other tanning methods; it just so happens that it also produces a uniquely soft finished product. Trim materials come by way of Merc’s ‘Manufaktur’ customization division, and include piano lacquer and walnut options. A Burmester 4D sound system, various massage and aromatherapy features, and customizable lighting are other frills of the new Maybach.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV will likely be in dealerships later this year.
