During the winter of 2022, we had a look at Gordon Murray Automotive’s T.33, a $2 million roadster. The car followed in the spirit of the Murray T.50, a last-word design that came with $3.1 million worth of road-legal thrills, and a Cosworth V12 under the hood that the center-drive T.50 didn’t keep to itself: the T.33 also received the engine.

Gordan Murray Automotive’s newest turn is a variation on the theme. An optional-roof version of the T.33 was clearly called for, and that’s what the California-based maker of exotics is delivering in time for spring: a T.33 Spider. With a £1.89 million sticker price (about $2.4 million at the current rate).

The horsepower rating follows from the hard top version — the Spider has 607 HP of potential — and adapted the car for open air with roof panels that can be packed away in the trunk. The back window is electronically squirreled away for fair-weather enjoyment. Unlike the coupe, the Spider is offered with a stick only.

The Spider design adds less than 40 pounds to the hardtop’s weight, tipping the scales at 2,442 pounds dry; there’s a huge amount of carbon fiber in the build. As was the case with the coupe, Gordon Murray Automotive will make 100 examples. A third and final entry in the T.33 series is on the way, apparently. We’ll see what next year brings.
