The Malibu home of Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne is for sale this Avril. The private little compound — very comfortable, and very manageable — spans .63 acres of bluff-top land on the Eastern side of the PCH.
The house dates to 1968, and slots neatly as a late midcentury single-level. The primary entrance is situated at the end of a romantically long front walk; a garage repurposed as a guest house sits perpendicular to the main house.
Inside, the house is dominated by the great room, an enormous open-concept space with an ocean side wall of glass and a marvelously rustic unfinished vaulted ceiling with exposed iron; the acoustics, one imagines, are superb, and the gratifying sonic possibilities of plugging a telecaster into a vintage 50-watt fender at full throttle immediately present themselves. Other musicians take note. Hardwood floors, spotlights, a fireplace and built-ins are also spotted in this catch-all space, which incorporates a kitchen, living room, dining room and creative workspace, all while appearing entirely uncrowded.
The primary bedroom — there are four bedrooms and four baths throughout the property — is a gem. The ceiling design gets a touch of reverb in this room, which opens to a private patio with a Johnny-come-lately sauna discreetly positioned against a hedge. Continuing out the sliding glass door ocean-ward is a hardwood sun lounge; a pool and a few bits of lawn round out the back 40, all wedged between the formidable banks of privacy hedge on either side.
Lavigne has sold over 40 million albums and 50 million singles worldwide. Her latest studio effort, Love Sux, was released last year.
