Mercedes-Benz recently announced the ordering availability of its new plug-in hybrid S-Class sedan, the S 580e. The car is loaded with Merc’s fourth-gen hybrid powertrain system, and has an all-electric range of over 60 miles, measured using WLTP methodology.
The heart of the 2023 S 580e is the newest refinement of Merc’s 3.0L inline six; in the case of the model at hand, it delivers 367 horsepower by its lonesome, with a single permanently excited synchronous e-motor adding 148 HP for a total rating that comes in at well over 500. When in all-electric mode, the 2023 S 580e can reach 130 MPH before being softly limited. On longer trips, fast-charging from 20 to 80 percent can be accomplished in 20 minutes.
The new S 580e is something of an alpha daily-driver, exec ferry and touring car in one; the design of the 2023 iteration of the car includes thoughtfully re-designed battery placement, allowing easier loading of the luggage compartment, while the back compartment is customizable for lighting and massage.
Options for the 2023 S 580e include E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension; AIRMATIC is standard. Mercedes has also loaded the model with the latest driver-assistance and MBUX infotainment tech.
The 2023 S 580e is priced from $123,600, destination and delivery included.
