Bowlus Serves Up Entry-Level Heritage Trailer

In recent years, several notable entries in trailer market were built by brand reboot Bowlus, a boutique firm determined to bring highway and living style to upscale vacations. The company’s Terra Firma and Volterra models, shimmering paeans to prewar/post-depression optimism and the golden age of travel, are sophisticated trophies utilitarian enough to outflank empty contrivance and vanity. As one might expect, they come at a premium with prices starting at $285,000 and $310,000.

But now Bowlus is making some allowance for the young artist on the road as well. The company’s newest model is the 27-foot-long Heritage, and with a starting price of $159,000, it represents an ante that’s considerably lower than the other Bowlus models.

Bowlus’ designs are not mere glamping vehicles — they’re more refined than that, and more literate. At the heart of the company’s design sensibility is a unique interpretation of golden-age aero, but the contemporary is always close at hand. The Heritage keeps the faith, and adds efficiency as well. It’s the lightest trailer in its class, and the most aerodynamic, the firm informs.

The light weight means the beechwood-clad interior has been stripped down. No wood here; what replaces it is a rivet-and-aluminum look which, when combined with the typical Bowlus fare of attractive cushioned convertible benches, windows, and high-end hardware, comes off as uniquely evocative of Bowlus history.

The Heritage packs 600 gallons on water, a probeless tank monitoring system, insulation, bronze screens, a quartet of silent ceiling vents, and a battery management system. It is outfitted with 2kWh lithium-ion batteries, which can be recharged from 20% to 90% in four hours; Power Package upgrades can be optioned.
