The first in a planned series of upper-tier limited-edition variants for the upcoming model year, the BMW 2024 M3 CS can play the part of grand tourer as readily as street-legal track car. For a young hotshot with a family, the five-seater represents a lossless reconciliation for less than $120K, destination included.

For the uninitiated, BMW’s CS suffix indicates ‘Competition Sport’, and inside and out the 2024 M3 CS wears an aggressive patina. The exterior of the car is decked out with impressive aero, graceful curves, sporty vents and plentiful carbon fiber-reinforced plastic parts, including front splitter and air intakes, roof, and rear diffuser and spoiler; inside, track-ready fixtures include M Carbon bucket seats and BMW’s Live Cockpit Professional and M-specific curved display suite as standard. A special M version head-up is optional, along with BMW Drive Recorder.

The heart of the variation is a straight six-cylinder engine that delivers 550 horsepower, a not-negligible bump of 40 HP from the M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive; the motor is mated to an eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox. Special tuning to the M3 CS’s M TwinPower Turbo system and chassis technology will appeal strongly to the performance-minded folk who will hear the siren song of this special edition M3.

The 2024 M3 CS will come with a base sticker of $119,659. Its launch is slated for next month.
