Actor Simon Helberg has acquired more than one Southern California property of note since his lucrative gig on the hit show Big Bang Theory ended. Among them: a horse farm in Carpinteria, a 1930-built Spanish-style in Los Feliz Oaks which was once owned by Vince Vaughn and which Helberg listed in turn last spring and, the gem of the lot, a little old architectural in Pasadena for which he coughed up $8.4 million last winter.
The Pasadena house, a nearly storybook centenarian on 1.25 beautifully landscaped acres, isn’t for sale quite yet. But the Spanish-style, a full-blooded example with towering massing, lots of original details, and some seasoning to taste by Helberg, is making a return to the open market with nearly a million shaved off its ask. The house relisted recently tagged at $8.997 million.
The house begins with a foyer that’s both cozily inviting and liberating, with a low timber ceiling giving way to a staircase and the daylight gleam of the living areas. The shared spaces culminate in a living room with a beamed ceiling, windows opening to Juliet balconies, and a soft-edged gated fireplace. Helbergian changes culimate in the kitchen, which is now expressed in counter-to-ceiling white subway tile, floating shelves, soft yellow, a butcher-block island cap, and oak plank refinished a touch earthier.
The home’s amenities include a bay-window creative workspace and a second-floor terrace; highlights of its .74 acres of grounds include a kidney-shaped pool, a pergola-capped patio, and a large-private lawn.
