Mercedes made a 791-horsepower announcement this past autumn, bringing to the light of day the 2024 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance. The hybrid performance sedan manages to effectively straddle traditional gas-burning driving and a respectable all-electric range for daily round trips, but Mercedes is quick to drive home the point that best-in-class performance unequivocally gets the upper hand in the overall design. F1 battery tech, the standard inclusion of such AMG features as AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL stabilization and AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension, as well as standard rear-axle steering, adaptive dampers, and carbon ceramic brakes, hint at the obvious.
The automaker states that the revised executive alpha ride is the ‘most powerful S-Class of all time’; the model’s hand-crafted 4.0L V8 twin-turbo engine is helped along by a permanently excited rear-synchronous rear-axle electric motor to create the unprecedented power rating; the sedan can make the 0-60 MPH leap in an estimated 3.2 seconds on its way to a top speed of 180. But the electric motor also gives the 2024 AMG S63 E Performance an electric-only range of 33 miles, which makes a gas-free commute a reality for many drivers while retaining the thrill potential of the model.
The new AMG S63 E Performance’s potential is enhanced by the look of the 2024 entry, which features a nose finished with the AMG-only star-and-louver grille and an AMG emblem as a class-defining hood ornament. Characteristic large side air inlets, functional air curtains, 21-inch AMG forged wheels and, in back, trapezoidal tailpipes and expressive finned diffuser also distinguish the exterior. Inside, an AMG steering wheel, Nappa leather, and AMG badging, trim and unique MBUX functionality take center stage visually, while a seven-mode drive system is the entryway to the road-going ownership experience of the 2024 AMG S63 E Performance.
