Alfa Romeo Reveals Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4

In February of this year, Alfa Romeo announced that the Tonale, the automaker’s plug-in hybrid SUV, had arrived in production version. To close out the year, Alfa has unveiled a more efficient version of the model: the 2023 Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4.

Apart from being a very pretty addition to the Alfa family, the Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 is a representative of what might be termed late-phase PHEV: designed for all-electric RWD travel during the daily commute or weekend errand-running, its AWD hybrid option is intended for open-ended or longer getaways off the beaten path. For the daily grind, a conventional plug gives owners 50 miles’ of travel.

The variant is also a figurehead, as it gives Alfa’s ‘from zero to zero’ progression a face; the automaker’s five-year plan takes it from no electric to all electric between 2022 and 2027, making it the fastest in the industry. The Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 is the billboard ambassador of the brand’s ambition.

The most efficient Alfa Romeo model ever, the AWD Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 can access the ‘low emission zones’ of the most aggressively clean cities, all while offering drivers 280 horsepower, ‘best-in-class’ soundproofing and cabin space, and the cosmetic touch a revised Alfa logo. A performance model, it features improved driving dynamics via a unique mode selector that combines Q4 traction, powertrain and transmission action, and command sensitivity; settings include ‘Advance Efficiency’, ‘Dynamic’ and ‘Natural’. Inside the cabin, 22.5 inches’ worth of screens control and inform, while Alexa and Alfa Connect enhance the experience of travel in the model.

The 2023 Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 will be initially offered in a launch edition with ‘Edizione Speciale’ trim.
