The last time we heard from figure skater Michelle Kwan, she was in the process of passing on her home in Newport to a new owner, and collecting $4 million in the bargain. To close out this year, Kwan is back in the real estate news with another outgoing property: a postwar-period home in the storied Los Angeles neighborhood of Bel Air.

The home — which appeared on the open market this fall with a $2.899 million asking price — contains three bedrooms and three baths in its 2,247 sq. ft. of interior living area. A streetside impression is of a well-groomed upper-tier SoCal suburban dwelling: inviting, European-inspired, and a trifle fastidious, with a white exterior that contrasts well with the green of the landscaping and the red brick of the leisurely progression of front walk, steps, and entry landing.

The home’s recessed front door opens to a pleasing wealth of varied details: dentil molding, inlaid black-on-white foyer tile, the beige floor of the kitchen, and the cherry-finished plank and ornamental wrought-iron balustrade of the step-down living room.

The kitchen is a linear space, with a sunny dayroom at one end and a fireplace family room at the other; a granite-capped island with a prep sink, European country-house cabinetry and stainless hardware are the salient features of the heart of it all.  In the living room is another fireplace, as well as an arcing series bay window, a bank of recessed ornamental shelves and a bit of wood paneling.

The bedrooms reprise the cherry floors and stylized kitchen cabinetry. In back, a mix of terra-cotta tile and red brick sets a beautifully-executed outdoor living complex at a warm temperature, with a cobalt blue-tiled BBQ spot and pergola-capped terrace as highlights.
