A splendid midcentury Modern in the Los Angeles area appeared on the open market this fall tagged at $3 million. It is being offered for sale by musician KT Tunstall, whose ‘soul, body and mind’ trilogy concluded with this September’s release of Nut. The Scottish singer is otherwise known for hits “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” and “Suddenly I See.”

The ebullient 4,666 sq. ft. home is occupies a .27-acre hillside slice of Topanga, and its lot offers fine views of Santa Monica Mountains. The home’s exterior is defined by a flat roof, wood and pale sage green trim, and a glassy entryway. It’s an inviting home, an impression which is borne out by the shared living spaces, which emphasize the modernist ideal of social facilitation toward a more profound sense of community.

The home’s living style develops through a striking use of color and the engaging blend of insouciance and formality that accumulates in its details, but it all comes to a head in the home’s upper-level bank of glass and French doors that opens the living room splendidly to its views. There are four bedrooms and five baths in this house, including a master with two balconies (two exposures) and a bath with a ceiling-fed soaking tub. The property’s outdoor spaces are as diverse; most of them feature glass balustrades, and they are distributed across both levels and down the hill as the landscaping breaks into tiers.

Tunstall’s previous homes in the L.A. environs: the 1923 Craftsman-inspired mail-order bungalow in Venice she listed for $3 million in early 2019, and sold in October of that year for $2.5 million.
