As Audi moves nearer to its ‘all electric by 2026’ goal, the automaker’s e-tron EV designation is growing up.
Since the e-tron brand was introduced in the last decade, Audi’s all-electric models have been named in kind: e-tron, e-tron GT, e-tron S, e-tron S Sportback. As the automaker’s electric lineup diversifies, the catch-all brand differentiator and model prefix will give way to a portmanteau of e-tron with more familiar Audi model names — beginning with the top of the heap SUV, the Q8, in 2024. The SUEV will have a range of up to 362 miles WLTP, with the Sportback variant coming in at 373 miles WLTP. Quick-charge times top out at an 80% restoration in 31 minutes, and the models will be net-carbon-neutral.
The new electric Q8 will be produced in SUV and crossover (or ‘Sportback’) body styles, and designated the 2024 Q8 e-tron. Drivetrain options differentiate further. The base models, the Q8 50 e-tron and Q8 Sportback 50 e-tron, pack two motors for 335 horsepower and a range of up to 314 miles; the two motors in the Q8 55 e-tron and Q8 Sportback 55 e-tron deliver 402 HP and up to 373 miles WLTP. Up top is the three-motor SQ8 e-tron and SQ8 Sportback e-tron, with nearly 500 HP and an electronically-limited top speed of 130 MPH.
Visually, the models are distinguished by a new ‘inverted’ grille, Singleframe mask, and refreshed rear diffuser and blade; S Line trim gets a grille in the car’s body color. The Q8 EVs are lower and wider, with greater interior volume. Performance features include improved electric torque vectoring and aerodynamics, while driver’s assistance features include Remote Park Assist Plus. Inside the cabin, two high-resolution displays with 10.1-inch and 8.6-inch screens inform, navigate and control creature comforts, while a new Air Quality Package can be optioned.
Expect to hear more about the 2024 Q8 e-tron lineup next spring.
