The Palm Springs nuptial retreat of Elvis and Priscilla Presley is back on the market this fall. The modern-style home, which is known as the Alexander Residence, has been given a revision since it last sold in 2020, fetching for $2.6 million. It recently re-appeared with an asking price of $5.65 million and seems to have been snapped up in a hurry; the property is pending sale and accepting backup offers.
The most readily apparent updates appear to be in the shared living area. The four-bed, five-bath house is a paragon of midcentury style and its philosophy of living, and the space is a grandly realized statement that was a primary reason for the home’s appearance in Look magazine in 1962. Changes therefore have been sensitive, relegated to carpet and upholstery. The exposed stone, central fireplace and chimney, and unique kitchen range — the burners installed into an island with a vent hood rising through the center of the room — are intact.
The living area and the social optimism it expresses have their match in the 4,695 sq. ft. home’s exterior architecture. The roofline is a straightforward jet-age love letter, and breaks into wings that give the house a look of the merely nominally earthbound.
