Photographic portraiture artist Annie Leibovitz may soon be settling down at the top of a Manhattan mid-rise; she recently committed to purchase a very engaging condo in the city’s West Village neighborhood, according to The New York Post.
The property’s sale will bring to a close a long run on and off the market, one that began in 2019 with an initial listing by the soon-to-be-previous owner at $10.5 million. The asking price prior to Leibovitz’s closing was $6.995 million; according to public records, the sale recorded at the same figure.
The unit contains two bedrooms and three baths across 3,153 sq. ft. of interior living area. The living style emerges from a blend of rustic, industrial, and midcentury modern design elements; a rough slate floor and wood burning fireplace are the earthier elements, while the kitchen’s almost whimsically colorful modernist concept, the concrete support columns and the exterior walls of multi-pane steel-framed windows and doors contribute the more urban, industrial and period components.
A series of circular ceiling trays is the most interesting feature of the interior architecture, accumulating into motif as one progresses through the residence. Varied in size, all give way to squared-off corners above.
Leibovitz’s iconic shots include portraits of John and Yoko, Demi Moore and Miles Davis.
