New from Airstream this autumn is a new vehicle for following the sun. The estimable and uniquely American company calls the model the Rangeline, and it’s priced to accommodate the working digital nomad who hasn’t yet sold a hit show to HBO.
The Rangeline uses a Ram ProMaster 3500 van as a foundation. The model measures twenty-one feet from stem to stern, which makes it easy to handle in traffic and easier to park while packing a huge amount of fundamentals for the journey into its cabin.
Because it’s a Ram and not a Merc, the sticker price of the Rangeline is more accessible. There’s adequate power thanks to a 3.6L Pentastar V6, which delivers 280 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque; a nine-speed TorqueFlite automatic delivers the energy.
The interior of the capable camper van is eminently tasteful, and form-follows-function. Self-locking cabinetry in natural-finished hardwood laminate is featured as a constant above, with larger bins below; cubbies and MOLLE panels keep frequently used items close at hand. Water storage on board the Rangeline is good for a few days — 28 gallons fresh — while the kitchen’s single-burner range and microwave handle mealtime essentials for a couple.
What most appeals about the Rangeline is the manner in which daily living off-the-grid has been accounted for. A sliding screen door is a great touch, while the roof awning design takes into account aerodynamics. Connectivity is also addressed, as the Rangeline is pre-wired for 5G.
Pricing for the 2023 Airstream Rangeline starts at $147,570.
