Back on the open market for another jaunt this fall is the architecturally striking 1970s signature home of basketball great Wilt Chamberlain. The five-bedroom, 2.6-acre estate in Bel-Air has been on and off the market since 2018, and initially arrived with an asking price of $19 million. The property is now tagged at $12 million.

A wildly stylized early 1970s expression, the property’s high modern concept is of a chilly and mathematical fundamental — various symmetrical perspectives, geometric forms, and massive, soaring steel beams — which is balanced by space and warmth. It begins with a set of gates that echo the home’s architecture and are embellished by opposed and colorful stained glass panels.

Stone floors, honey-toned plank wall and ceiling accents, and oversized glass panels that open the living areas to the property landscaping contribute to the living style of the 7,158 sq. ft. mansion. Its entry incorporates an extended water feature, while the pool area contains the home’s most striking feature: flying buttresses, which give the home a pronounced solidity, and playfully adapt an architectural flourish of classical cathedrals to a decadent L.A.-area trophy residence.
