Toward the end of last year, Silicon Valley and B Positive star Thomas Middleditch purchased a hilltop property in Los Angeles’s resiliently hip Laurel Canyon neighborhood. The actor paid a full-ask $4.495 million for the home, according to public records, before listing it again nine months later at $4.699 million and ultimately passing it on last month for $4.6 million.
The house, which contains four bedrooms and three baths across 2,933 sq. ft. of interiors, sits atop a .33-acre cul-de-sac lot immediately below Mulholland. It dates to 1971, but doesn’t appear to be particularly dated; its period design elements include the extravagant red brick fireplace accent wall in the living room, which has been finished to an appealing patina. The patio and pool area is also weathered red brick, and the material pops up judiciously as an accent material as well, culminating in the private spaces in the master’s Southwestern fireplace accent wall.
A general treatment in bright white sustains neutrality throughout the home, and it comes off especially well in the living room, where glass on both sides of the room freely reveals the intense green of the landscaping, and a ceiling extension inset with clerestory windows and skylights brings additional breathing room and light into the space.
Apart from the pool and patio, the property finds space for a delightfully secluded lawn hemmed in by hedgerows and accented by a garden bench.
Middleditch’s current projects include Hulu’s adult animated sitcom Solar Opposites.
