The latest news from Mercedes-Benz finds the company looking ahead to the 2024 model year in the most acute manner. The model is the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance, an ecologically relevant sports sedan that looks positively thrilling.
At the center of the vision is efficiency; the model’s hybrid drivetrain merges a frightfully shrewd four-cylinder AMG gas-burner with a rear-axle battery-powered motor. The hand-built 2.0L 4-cylinder delivers 469 horsepower by its lonesome, but with the electric motor in play the 2024 C 63 S E Performance gives drivers 671 HP to play with—that’s enough to snap from 0-62 in 3.3 seconds. And the model will look quite fetching doing it.
Additionally, an energy recuperation system is part of the model’s design. The system’s four available recuperative modes are changeable from the steering wheel; at its highest energy-gleaning level, the brake pedal is essentially redundant, and 100 kW are routed back into the battery to improve all-electric range, making the model as ideal a city week-daily as weekend rural-route hair-raiser. A belt-driven starter-alternator and F1-inspired electrically assisted exhaust gas turbo and battery contribute to the extraordinary efficiency profile of the model’s powertrain.
The 2024 C 63 S E Performance also features rear axle steering, which improves the agility of the car. At speeds up to 62 MPH, the rear wheels turn opposite to the front, but above 62 they turn in parallel. Eight drive settings complete the car’s performance profile, and mightily attractive it is.
Merc isn’t discussing price or delivery schedule for the 2024 AMG C 63 S E Performance at this time. But they’ll likely be discussing the model in more detail in the first quarter of next year, so keep an eye out.
