Mariah Carey spent some time behind the drawing board and in front of the camera this year on behalf of shimmery haute joaillerie firm Chopard.

The theme of the resulting collection is the butterfly. In light of it, and considering the familial influence of the concert hall and the works of Verdi, Donizetti, Wagner and Puccini, her new role as ambassador of gilded D. Plexippus (et al) just might make her Madame Butterfly.

Carey was involved in designing the pieces in the ‘Happy Butterfly x Mariah Carey Collection’ — rings, earrings, and a fairly dazzling necklace, among others — which uses rose gold and white gold to house generous servings of diamonds.

The origin of the glittering homage is the singer’s 1997 album Butterfly.
