The Long Island estate of art magazine publisher Louise Blouin is back on the upper tier Northeast real estate market recently. Blouin — whose company, Louise Blouin Media, publishes Modern Painters, Art+Auction, and Gallery Guide — is asking $150 million for the compound.
The property has been titled La Dune. Its two houses are arranged amid lawns, hedgerows and groomed landscaping on about four acres of waterfront land; its sandy beach frontage measures about 400 feet.
The two houses on La Dune date to 1994 and 2004. Both feature architecture designed with a sensitive eye cast to the area and its history; they are contemporary approaches to the rambling shingle-style ‘cottages’ of the early 20th century. The attic floor of the four-level main house gave designers the opportunity to give guest bedrooms and baths a classic nook-and-cranny feel.
Generally, floors are coffee-colored oak plank, and multi-pane French doors and windows flood interior spaces with light. Other details spotted across the two residences: cathedral and semi-vaulted ceilings, built-in bookshelves, fireplaces, and milled molding.
The grounds are divided by a center drive lined with hedges. The houses, a tennis court, and a swimming pool are more or less situated on the west side of the property, while a larger pool sits amid a large plain of lawn on the east side of the estate.
