The DeLorean reboot firm DeLorean Motors Reimagined— a former parts specialist dedicated to the first generation of the company and its collectible stainless steel sports cars — brought a whole trunk full of ideas to this year’s Monterey Car Week. Among them: a pair of new concepts.
The new models, called the Alpha5 Plasmatail and the Omega, follow the Alpha5 that was revealed this spring and introduced as a prototype at Pebble Beach this month. The two new vehicles represent a large span of time; the first model year of the Plasmatail is forecasted for 2024, while the Omega looks ahead a bit more, and far more ambitiously: it is a vision of what could be in dealerships in 2040.
The Plasmatail is a wagon-come-shooting-brake; the languid, extravagant gradient of the back end errs on the side of the latter, and it’s a look that never seems to lose its attractiveness. It shares much with its standard-production sibling, including the greenhouse roof and, of course, those DeLorean doors, borrowed from the Mercedes 300 SL.
The Omega is a capable-looking futuristic crossover geared for off-road riding. The company cites Baja competition vehicles as a design inspiration. The concept sports high clearance, single-unit wheels, and what appears to be a center-cockpit design.
And the Alpha5? It is expected in 2024.
