The U-shaped, Japanese-inspired contemporary that actors Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof purchased in 2016 and hefted back onto the market this summer has gone to a new buyer. The couple purchased the property for $8 million, renovated it, and put it back up for sale less than two months ago for $18 million. It recently closed again — at $16 million, a record for the area (the outgoing record holder was the contemporary Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner sold for $15.1 million last September).
When the Buffy-alum couple closed on the house toward the end of 2016, it slotted as a bit bleak. The renovations conducted by Hannigan and Denisof gave it a new identity more in line with its glassy, meditative architecture, nixing the more overtly ‘glamorous’ design details that affected the home when they bought it. A good example: the crystal chandelier which hung in a somewhat trepidation-inspiring manner over the sleeping area, and the metallic headboard that was its set-piece companion.
As it stands, the house is a wood-heavy exercise inside and out, with timber wall cladding, interior accents, shelving and ceilings. Steel-framed doors and windows and stone or concrete floors also define the home; more stylized newer visuals include the interstellar anemone-like chandelier in the formal dining room. All the earth tones accumulate a little ponderously until one reaches the kitchen, where a welcome lick of blues comes into play: shades are near to periwinkle for the cabinetry, and cobalt for the island.
The little compound’s outdoor living area flows outward from a grassy semi-courtyard pool area that inhabits the interior of the U-shape. But space is one of the amenities of this property, and the grounds measure 3.27 acres; a sunken tennis court and detached guest house inhabit its hinterlands.
