Freedom Ranch, the 44-acre retreat where Debbie Reynolds sought refuge, diversion and privacy, is back on the market this summer. The Creston, California, property is currently listed with an asking price of $2.85 million.
The property’s recent history on and off the market includes listing at $5 million and a 2017 trip to auction, where it joined her studio under the gavel. The studio sold prior to the auction; Freedom Ranch was back on the open market less than a year later, tagged at about $4 million. By 2020 it was listed at $3.2 million.
The main home’s accommodations count comes to seven bedrooms and eight baths across 7,800 sq. ft. of interiors, but the property is also populated by a pair of detached support structures currently purposed as studio, recording and office space. Inside the farmhouse, a rustic spirit carries the day, and details include Saltillo tile and hardwood plank floors, pine doors and ceilings, built-in bookshelves and fireplaces.
Individual rooms of note begin with the tile-floored living area, a generally open space with a small wet bar; a meandering room, it transitions to a farmhouse-style kitchen with a diner booth for breakfasting. The master bedroom features a hipped ceiling, a fireplace and French doors opening to a private deck.
In 2015, about a year before her passing, Reynolds took home the Academy’s Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. She died in December 2016, following daughter Carrie Fisher by one day.
