Last month, retired Washington Nationals baseman Ryan Zimmerman closed on a new home in McLean, Virginia. Zimmerman paid $11 million for the distinguished stone-clad house, a seven-bedroom, ten-bath structure decked out with a La Cornue-anchored kitchen, a ballroom and an owner’s wing with three fireplaces and a pair of dressing rooms. A pool, pool house, and two-story carriage house add additional aristocratic cred to the formal little estate.

Which left Zimmerman with one Virginia mansion too many. This month, the outbox property saw a relist. Zimmerman put the five-acre estate in Great Falls up for sale this spring, asking $8.5 million. The home is now listed at $7.9 million.

The house, a French Provincial-inspired manor with six bedrooms and nine baths across 13,232 sq. ft., was completed in 2009. It is nestled in a particularly sylvan corner of its community, and its lifestyle is rooted in a secluded feel. The shingled main house is augmented with a covered outdoor fireplace living room; the structure is clad in rusticated stone, and contains a large U-shaped BBQ bar.

The shared spaces of the main house feature stone fireplaces, antiqued plank hardwood, tongue-and-groove ceilings, and casement windows. The kitchen, an enormous room with a chevron-pattern hardwood floor, sprawls to include a dayroom with a U-shaped bay window booth, while the master features a partially-recessed sleeping area, a Tudor Gothic fireplace and a bath with a private tub room and a spectacular floor of herringbone-pattern limestone. An upper-level family room with barn doors and a lower-level entertainment space with a full-sized bar are on this home’s amenities list.

The acreage’s landscaping features lawns, forest, and an English garden, and a trio of water features: a koi pond, a water wheel, and a large fountain.
