Villa Bellezza, the seven-bedroom, nine-bath Calabasas estate of St. Tropez tanning spray co-creator Robin Gibson, hit the open market recently with an asking price of $23.995 million. It had been marketed at $30 million last year but no serious buyer emerged.
The property, which features a main house and two-and-two guest house, offers interiors measuring 15,745 sq. ft., and is located in the Estates of the Oaks community. The main house was custom-designed by architect William Hablinksi according to Gibson’s imaginative blueprint; the property was reportedly six years in the making.
The living style emerges from the home’s reclaimed and period-look materials, with Venetian plaster, yellow-and-white checkerboard tile, parquet, carved limestone fireplaces among them. Ornamental columns, ceiling frescoes, ornate millwork and moldings, and dome, coffered and barrel ceilings help cast the lush period atmosphere that suffuses the home. Acting as contemporary ballast for the intensity of the temporal displacement are steel-framed French doors and recessed ceiling fixtures, but the period feel certainly carries the day.
A screening room, wine cellar with tile floor and brick barrel ceiling, gallery hallway with groin vaulted ceiling, and a great room with a lofty ceiling are among the villa’s more eye-catching spaces. The 1.28 acres of grounds is decorated with water features, a fireplace loggia with BBQ, a rather oversized chess board, and a pool with spa amid the property’s rolling lawns.
