Prospective buyer: Is it haunted?
Agent: Not once the current owner moves out.
The Victorian on offer here might, at first glance, lead you to surmise its occupants are a latter-day Munsters brood, or that it is presently purposed as a Los Angeles-area retreat for a Hammer Film Studios’ executive. In point of fact, it is owned by Kat Von D., just a girl next door with a fine collection of Pat Boone records. And a swimming pool with an eye-catching blood-red lighting effect.
Von D would like to pass it on, and she’s waited eight months so far to do so. A bit of circumspection and those long months with no sale have inspired a drop in asking price, and the residence’s $15 million price tag has been slashed down to $10.95 million, which seems fair enough for this remarkably detail-rich Vicky dating to 1896.
A few of the more exceptional details of the interiors: stained glass windows, carved wood doors, hardwood paneling, trompe l’oeil, period chandeliers, ornate millwork, and original fireplaces in various styles; one space — it appears to be a conservatory — is designed in a weighty 18th-century French style, with gilt-aplenty and a fresco ceiling. The kitchen alone is worth the price of admission, with a triple-gabled vent hood, an island with Gothic glass panes, and yellow marble tops and cap.
The grounds keep to the Victorian conceit, with Romantic garden design and, in front, a fountain centerpiece.
