It’s been a long and rather bumpy road for Fisker Inc., the EV startup founded by designer Henrik Fisker, whose back pages include spectacular work with Aston Martin. He’s also the creative force behind the Karma, a hybrid supercar of the last decade. Fisker Inc., his latest company, has been through a series of difficulties related to funding and design aspirations—the latter including those related to solid-state battery technology—which were finally put to bed by virtue of a reverse merger.
The result of all that history is the Ocean, an everyperson’s EV which will move into production in the last quarter of this year for a 2023 inaugural model year. Response in the U.S. has been very favorable; the company reports that the model’s Sport and Ultra variants have sold out here. Additionally, the Ocean One sold out entirely earlier this summer.
Pricing for the Ocean represents a broad spread; it begins at $37,499 for the Sport variant whereas the Ultra base-stickers at $49,999, and the One at $68,999. Fisker’s other model, developed under the R&D moniker Project PEAR, is projected to be a U.S.-built EV that’s even more of an everyperson’s getabout. Fisker advertises a base sticker on the model at $29,900, and initial deliveries for the 2024 model year.
