The South Florida residence listed by actor Christian Slater just weeks ago has already closed. Slater put the Coconut Grove property up for sale in early July, and saw it into contract in about ten days. He’d been hoping for $3.95 million; a flurry of competing bids sent the final selling price up to $4.258 million. Every little bit helps.
A bona fide tropical fantasy, the 3,293 sq. ft. Italianate sits on an Elysian .27 acre lot; the landscaping that surrounds it and the leafiness of its corner of the neighborhood belie the property’s size, giving the romantic impression of being pleasingly lost in the palms. The house is preceded by a short driveway; the red brick and tile roof of the home complement each other and provide a lilting contrast with the intense tropical green of the flora.
The home’s interiors combine bright white walls and ceilings with abundant glass. The original narrow-plank floors have been given a flat natural refinish, and some newer light fixtures have of course crept in, but the period atmosphere is still very much in prominence. Arched French doors open the various rooms to the property’s outdoor living spaces, which include balconies, patios, and a beach-entry pool.
Slater had owned the home for nine years; according to public records, he closed on it in the spring of 2013.
Slater’s got a trio of films in the works: Freelance, with John Cena, Alison Brie, and Alice Eve; Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, with Jerry Seinfeld, Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Hugh Grant, and James Marsden; and Pussy Island, with Channing Tatum.
