Porsche reasserted its track cred on its home turf this summer when a Taycan Turbo S clocked a 7-minute, 33-second run at the Nürburgring track. In September of last year, a stock Tesla Model S Plaid made the trip to Germany and raised a few eyebrows when it ran the ‘ring in 7 minutes and 35.579 seconds.
Not one to let a gauntlet rest on the ground, Porsche came back this summer with the Taycan’s run on the winding 12.9 miles of the track. Aside from the Taycan Turbo S the responsibility for the performance lies with driver Lars Kerns. The Taycan was a regular production example…with the exception of a ‘Performance Kit’ that oriented it to track driving.
The Taycan Turbo S comes with a 751-horsepower electric powertrain; the Tesla Model S Plaid comes in at 1,000. As configured for the recent ‘ring run, the Taycan Turbo S currently holds the ‘fastest EV’ mantle at the legendary track.
The rivalry continues.
