Actor Christian Slater put his longtime gated residence in South Florida up for sale for $3.95 million and quickly found an interested buyer. Slater has called the quiet corner of Coconut Grove home for nearly a decade.
The property has been titled Villa Dolce far Niente. Well, as the French say, et pourquoi pas. Although the appellation given the estate is somewhat misleading, as Slater’s cherry-picked acting jobs have been far from few and far niente.
As for the house, it’s an Italianate dating to 1928. It contains four bedrooms and four baths across its two levels, although one of each can be likely be credited to the detached guest cottage, and the 3,293 sq. ft. is probably a property total, with the cottage claiming perhaps 700-1000 of it.
Beyond the recessed entry and its tiled, elevated landing, the interiors of the main house show fairly recent renovation, with the original narrow-plank floors glistening in a satin-finished natural tone and bright white walls and ceilings the general rule. Arched doorways, modest crystal chandeliers, and tropical wood blinds also appear on a tour of the home; the living room fireplace features a Tudor arch, a nod to 1920s fashion.
The home’s kitchen is a pristine mix of white tones and newer marble, and paired with a dayroom with a booth window seat. A charming semi-divided second-floor terrace, brick patio, classic striped window awnings, and beach-entry pool complete the scene. Dolce far niente; just try and argue with that.
Slater’s upcoming films include Freelance, with John Cena, Alison Brie, and Alice Eve; Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, with Jerry Seinfeld, Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Hugh Grant, and James Marsden; and Pussy Island, with Channing Tatum. On the television side, his upcoming projects include Fleishman Is in Trouble, with Jesse Eisenberg, Lizzy Caplan, Claire Danes, and Adam Brody.
