World Series Champion Chipper Jones Pays $3M for Rustic Lakeside Lodge

Retired MLB left fielder Chipper Jones is the new owner of a stone-and-timber lakefront lodge-style in Georgia. The Deep South native — Jones hails from Florida, and has family in the Peach State — paid $3 million for the amenity-rich retreat in Morganton.

The rustic mansion’s façade voices farmhouse architecture, with x-braced doors for the two garage bays magnifying the rusticity of the stained plank siding and full-width covered porch. The residence is a two-story that ambles over a fairly large footprint; its interior living area measures about 6,000 sq. ft. Layout priority is given to the shared spaces; this is a family house.

The living area culminates in a great room with a two-story ceiling; the sense of scale is emphasized by the fieldstone fireplace accent wall, which rises through both floors, and a grand antler chandelier. Walls and ceilings are clad in pine plank, while oak plank floors run throughout the home.

Amenities in this house include a billiards room with an auxiliary kitchen and U-shaped, granite-capped bar, a cathedral master with a fireplace sitting room and a sauna bath, and a screened-in porch overlooking the lake. The property includes a dock and boat house, which has its roof purposed as a lakeside deck.

Accompanying Jones’ closure on this house is the listing of another: the World Series champ’s Atlanta-area estate, which appeared for sale this summer priced at $15 million.
