In the last quarter of 2021, actor Matt Damon saw his Pacific Palisades home into the rearview. The contemporary home changed hands for $18 million.
It took about eight months, but Damon found a new residential diversion to take the sting out of ennui. It’s on the ‘other’ coast, however. Completed in 2004, the Bedford, New York Colonial sapped $8.5 million for Damon’s coffers.
The estate harkens back to the turn of the 20th century; the house sits on 13.49 acres’ worth of gently undulating lawn, which transitions to forest; a split-rail fence and a small stream-fed pond on the property puts the final touches on the U.S. aristocratic classicism.
The house contains four bedrooms and six baths across 7,190 sq. ft. of living area. Its shared living spaces put a luxurious contemporary spin on traditionalism, with a Christopher Peacock kitchen getting top billing; the butcher-block cap and the tile backsplash behind the stove are unusually lovely details.
Accommodations culminate in a master suite with a coffee bar and an adjacent gym. The upper-level guest room is situated near a creative workspace; additional special-use rooms in the building include the formal dining room, which features built-in bookshelves, backlit display niches, and a bank of glass doors that open dining for an indoor/outdoor feel when the weather’s amenable.
A trail network, greenhouse, saltwater swimming pool, boardwalks, tree-house, tennis-court, a barn that’s likely original to the property and a rope bridge are highlights of a tour of the grounds.
Damon’s upcoming projects include Oppenheimer, with Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh.
