Media scion Lachlan Murdoch let one of his Los Angeles residences go to a new owner; the billionaire sold the property for $21.66 million. The buyers of the 1939-built estate were actress Amanda Peet and writer/director/producer and Game of Thrones co-creator David Benioff, according to Dirt. The sale closed quietly off-market for $21.7 million in late August of 2020.

The property is anchored by a ranch house. Architect Cliff May designed the home. May liked the ranch style, and was instrumental in merging it with midcentury sensibilities in a California climatological context in the postwar period.

This home sits on a 2.29-acre lot in Mandeville Canyon, which contextualizes the property’s lifestyle beautifully as exceedingly private, indoor-outdoor, and sylvan. From the backyard, the house and its companion pool house — a one level with a rounded footprint — are both partially shrouded in forest and flowering plantings, and the little estate might be lodged in a rural corner far from any city.
