Last fall, we had a look at Gulfstream’s new G800 flagship, a larger business jet with a range of 8,000 nm and a top speed of Mach .925. This summer, Gulfstream took the prototype of the new model out for its first flight, completing a round trip voyage from Savannah in two hours.
The G800 is powered by two Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines, each delivering 18,250 pounds of thrust. It can travel 8,000 nautical miles at Mach .85, or 7,000 at Mach .90. The model can reach a top speed of Mach .925. Its cabin layout is configurable and, to some degree, custom-made, with hand-crafted seats; perhaps more interesting is the model’s circadian lighting system, which facilitates a decent rest while underway.
Next up for the $72 million, range-topping model — top of the Gulfstream model range, that is, and top of the pops for overall one-stop distance, according to the press release: more testing ahead of initial deliveries next year.
