After nearly two years on the market, World Series champ Mariano Rivera sold his home in Westchester County, New York, this month. The thirteen-time All-Star pitched listed the house for sale on the open market back in November of 2020, tagging it at a below-purchase $4 million.

The property’s recent closing registered at $3.8 million. The sale represents a loss — nearly a third away from the buy-in price of $5.7 million Mariano and Clara Rivera paid in the heady, pre-crash days of 2006.

The house, a grandiose Victorian-inspired manor with twin turrets, an observation cupola and stone chimney stacks, is a 13,000 sq. ft. whopper of a home. Craftsmanship elements make for a long list, and include detailed crown moldings, pastoral trompe l’oeil, tray ceilings with and without stenciled trim, and multiple fireplaces.

The earthiest fireplace is a river stone accent wall installation in one of the home’s primary amenities: the English pub, which features wood paneling, a wood coffered ceiling, and a long, L-shaped bar. Other amenities include a formal dining room—which sports another coffered ceiling—as well as a glassy dayroom, a theater, a billiard’s room, a guest apartment, and an office. Outside, a pool with a flagstone surround and an elevated stone patio dominate the backyard.
