In 2018, a fetching modern in Beverly Hills transferred from the real estate portfolio of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi to that of billionaire philanthropist Sue Gross.

Gross held onto the heavily revised 1966-built midcentury for a few years, eventually listing it with an asking of $38 million in the high summer of last year. She stuck to her guns through the first relist, but levied a chop-ola to the ask the second time around, dropping it to $32 million earlier this spring. A recent second snip leaves the listing price at $28.9 million.

The house is a reticent sort in front; from the motor court no façade is visible, as an impervious but visually engaging wall of slatted hardwood presents an impassive first impression that encourages curiosity…and parking: three bays hide behind the stylized uniformity. Tucked away to one side is the entrance, which begins with a landscaped vestibule. On the far side, the house opens via pocketing wood-framed glass to very fine city and ocean views, with a secluded pool, sundeck and lawn in the foreground.

Inside, the house features concrete floors and striking plank ceilings throughout the shared spaces; in the kitchen, the overhead effect is enhanced by way of a deeply recessed skylight finished with hardwood. The master bedroom, one of four in the home, features a fireplace and sliding wood-framed glass doors that open to a private patio.

Gross’s net worth is north of $1.5 billion.
