Strongheart Manor, the Hamptons estate that formerly provided breathing room to Richard Gere but was most recently owned by former ‘Today Show’ host Matt Lauer, finally found a buyer this season.
Lauer and his ex-wife Annette Roque purchased the compound in the North Haven neighborhood of Sag Harbor from Gere in 2016, paying $36.5 million. Three years later, Lauer listed it with an asking price of $44.8 million. It finally went to a new owner this spring.
Gere also had to wait a good while for the right buyer to come along and scoop up the 6.3-acre estate. He listed it initially at $65 million, and waited for about three years to move it on as well.
Strongheart spans three properties that collectively represent twelve bedrooms and twelve baths across 14,000 sq. ft. of interior living area. The primary home is a 1902-built shingle style that measures in at about 6,500 sq. ft. It features a covered porch and is partially framed by a long arbor. Its interiors are dressed as aristocratic casual, a refined cottage feel that conveys the spirit of such an extravagant summer home. Of the other two residences on the property, the larger contains four bedrooms and three baths, the smaller two bedrooms and four baths.
The luxuriant grounds are, of course, extraordinary, with semi-forested sections, extravagantly rolling lawns, gardens, a pond with a boardwalk-accessible cabana, and of course a Gunite pool. The property has 300 feet of frontage on the Peconic River.
