Investor Ron Burkle was in a residential real estate buying mood this past winter. He added an architecturally significant early 20th-century Pasadena home to his portfolio, according to Dirt, paying $5.662 million for the privilege.
In the very late winter, Burkle was inspired to spend another $13.5 million on a home in Malibu’s storied Colony neighborhood. A couple of months later, he listed a Toluca Lake estate that had once been home to Bob Hope for sale with a $29 million asking price; the place is one of two signature homes that Hope once owned and Burkle now does, the other being the John Lautner-designed Mushroom House in Palm Springs.
Burkle’s Pasadena acquisition is an English Arts & Crafts-style residence. The 7,339 sq. ft. house begins with vine-draped portico entrance and red brick landing. Beyond the sidelight-flanked single front door, the home’s interiors begin with a cozy foyer and progress to a wide-open living area.
The home’s fireplaces are among its finer details — each is an individual, and both tile and natural stone are featured for surround materials. The master bedroom receives one of them, and a gambrel ceiling as well; a long, rectangular-shaped room, it’s the culmination of the home’s refined countryside feel.
The property features a long list of amenities. Outside, its extensive landscaped living area includes a lawn with an unusual fountain centerpiece, and a river stone kitchen and with a pizza oven.
Burkle’s net worth is around $2.2 billion.
