The news from Polestar this spring concerns the company’s daily driver, the Polestar 2, for the upcoming model year.

In following the company’s O2 roadster concept, a manifesto for the holistic sustainability of the company — that is, the sustainability that begins with the production facility that makes the car and extends to the planned reuse of the materials and componentry that go into it — it’d be natural if the company’s newest statement of purpose for the Polestar 2 had sustainability as its foundation.

And, essentially, it does. The big news for 2023 concerns sourcing materials, and the way certain materials are used to make parts; the press release points to using blockchain record tech to trace what goes into a Polestar, ensuring a sustainable provenance.

Also at issue for the upcoming Polestar 2 is the matter of power. The company’s revision of battery chemistry brings the capacity up to 69 kWh and increases range to a bit less than 300 miles employing WLTP methodology.

Finally, the company announced new details regarding the interiors of Polestar 2 variants. Nappa leather is available as an option, but it now comes with proof of sustainable harvesting; vegan upholstery is listed among the car’s renewable and recycled cabin materials. Other updates include an improved cabin filter and particulate sensor, and a removable sunshade for the glass roof.

For 2023, the RWD Polestar 2 will base sticker at $49,800, with the AWD version starting at $53,300.
