Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi continued their Montecito house-flipping chronicles this week by listing the cottage they purchased in the idyllic Santa Barbara County city not long ago. The couple is asking $5.995 million for the property, a heavily renovated 1915-built cottage on a .2-acre lot.

The property is landscaped with a fair amount of tropical flora, placing it in a particularly lush setting which provides a meaningful contrast to the home’s Arts & Crafts flourishes, and lends a pleasingly overgrown atmosphere to the extended outdoor living area. An original water feature is a highlight of the property’s exterior.

Interiors have been given a fairly recent going-over that includes grayscale tones throughout the shared spaces; notable original details include the hipped ceiling in the dining room, and the narrow-plank oak that is used throughout. A galley kitchen and living room with fireplace, built-in bookshelves, and a vaulted ceiling complete a look at the common area, although the dining room’s ceiling gets a second showing in the master bedroom. A guest cottage brings the accommodations total to three bedrooms and four baths.

The recent real-estate shenanigans of the DeGeneres/de Rossi collective include the sale of Rowan House, a midcentury gem in Beverly Hills they picked up in the summer of 2022 and passed on to a new owner last month for $8.8 million.
