Back in late 2016, comedienne and actress Amy Schumer pulled a residential ownership switcheroo on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. In the outbox was an 850 sq. ft. full-floor, one-bed penthouse unit in a converted brownstone a stone’s throw from Central Park, and it ultimately sold in 2017 for a little less than Schumer’s 2014 purchase price of $1.695 million.
The property Schumer moved into, a much larger penthouse in a prewar Beaux-Arts building on the Hudson River side of the neighborhood, ran the actress $12.15 million at the 2016 closing. Schumer put it back up for sale this month, asking a reasonable $15 million.
With 4,500 sq. ft. to roam and five bedrooms’ worth of private accommodation, the duplex condo has abundant breathing room to offer. Its living room is beautifully realized, with a long line of fold-away glass panels paired with a companion series of marginal skylights and a peninsula fireplace set a modern tone, while earthy plank oak floors provide an element of natural texture.
Other highlights of the residence’s design include a curving staircase—also predominantly oak—and backlit tray ceilings. The wraparound terrace is the penthouse’s grand outdoor living space, a 3000 sq. ft. complex distributed across both levels of the home, turning the unit into a lavish, indoor-outdoor lifestyle property when the weather is amenable.
Schumer kicks off her upcoming Whore Tour in July.
