Months after picking up a character-rich, 1906-built gem in Pasadena for $8.4 million, actor Simon Helberg is back in the real estate news this month with a listing.
The outbox property is a 4,000 sq. ft. Spanish-style in Los Feliz Oaks, which Vince Vaughn once owned, and for which Helberg paid $6.9 million in 2019. The property is back on the market this spring tagged at $9.875 million.
The home offers the usual travel-log of period details, including terra-cotta tile and hand-printed tile risers outside, and an ornate carved stone crest at the bottom of the front steps as a preamble to entry. Once inside the home, a mix of period details and owner revisions comes into view, and there’s more than one surprise along the way.
A few Helberg-ownership changes also come into view. The foyer tile, a mixed pattern, is an unexpected flourish, and thankfully remains; the beamed and occasional raw ceilings have survived as well. But the color choice at work in the kitchen — a creamy green somewhere between forest and jade — has been traded out for a pale yellow, and the hardwood plank has been replaced with oak in a darker tone. Additionally, the colonial chandelier in the living room has been replaced with a candelabra fixture.
One of the pleasures of a Spanish style like this one is the eccentric series of balconies and verandas, and a design like this one has a few beauties to offer for morning paper-reading or evening stress-reducing. In back, a pool and pool house are nestled amid lush privacy landscaping.
A turnkey lifestyle.
Helberg’s upcoming projects include Space Oddity, with Kevin Bacon; Kyra Sedgwick is directing.
