Trying her hand at the buy-renovate-flip progression and faring quite well at it is actress Reese Witherspoon. In the winter of 2021, the Academy and BAFTA Award winner picked up a 10,343 sq. ft. English-inspired home in L.A. for $16 million; she listed it for $25 million in March of this year and saw it off at the end of April for $21.5 million. A relatively quick process.
The Brentwood property had a lot going for it at the outset, though, including 2.4 acres of grounds; the backyard rest & recreation area is a gem, a secluded and bucolic spot with a meditative sense of space that appears blissfully uninterrupted by the multi-level pool, spa, deck and patio complex. In front of the house, a rolling, tree-shaded lawn sets an aristocratic tenor, with the home’s architecture and diamond-pane windows behind. At the margins of the property is a forest-like tree line.
The home’s interiors show off a capable revision, with popular material choices—including honed-finish marble floor tiles—joining a general brightening and contemporizing; a bit of strong color sneaks into the office, and contrasts beautifully with the new natural-toned floor plank.
Witherspoon is producing two upcoming films: drama Where the Crawdad Sings and rom-com Your Place or Mine. She also stars in the latter alongside Ashton Kutcher.
