The ceramic used in watchmaking is one of the most technologically contemporary materials at work in the field today. Hublot’s newest chiming model, the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Cathedral Minute Repeater Ceramic, puts it to work not only as a bracelet material but as a case material too, and delivers a finished product that can sound nearly as large as its name.

The watch also features a tourbillon and a minute repeater, but the charm is the chime, and the ceramic case sounds out with a full, rich and complex tonality that nicely encapsulates a cathedral at its most mellifluous. The watch’s look, meanwhile, captures the contemporary spirit of the material and the decision to use it instead of the more traditional material to facilitate chiming: gold.

Hublot is planning to produce just 18 examples of the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Cathedral Minute Repeater Ceramic in each color. The watch is priced at $295,000 and is available in Japan only.
