Early this spring, the coastal Carmel residence that was at one time hearth and home to actress Betty White listed on the open market at $7.95 million. The property appeared and moved into contract within two weeks; it apparently stimulated a spirited bidding war, as it ultimately closing at the end of April for a price far exceeding its ask: $10.775 million.

The location is an extraordinary one. Nestled on a quiet waterfront lot overlooking Monastery Beach, Ribera Beach and the Point Lobos Nature Reserve, the four-bed, five-bath house is a wildlife enthusiast’s dream home; inside the 3,621 square-footer, oversized glass panes take in the panorama from public and private spaces, with the master receiving both views and a kiva-shaped fireplace for true California coastal atmospherics.

The house sits on a .28-acre lot. Landscaping includes hedgerows and groomed gardens, with a walking path meandering among the flora while the sand and water of a quiet, nearly undeveloped beach beckons just down the hill.

White was the first woman to produce a sitcom in the U.S. She was also co-creator and star of the low-budget comedy, which was titled Life With Elizabeth and ran from 1953 to 1955.
